Yeast Infection Symptoms And Causes

Yeast infections are very common and once you got one, you will not forget it. The intense itching is what makes a yeast infection. If it does not itch, it is very unlikely to be a yeast infection.

Yeast infections are known to occur in the vaginal area but men can also get it and the infection can also appear in other areas of the body.

The itching is caused by a fungi. There are various kinds which are called candida. It is so common than more than two third of all women will suffer from it at least once in their lifetime. But often it is a recurring infection and although the causes and symptoms can vary, you will recognize it when it happens to you again.

It is important to consult a doctor when you have the symptoms for the first time. It may not be a simple yeast infection but the symptoms can be the sign of another, more severe disease.

Another symptom can be a thick discharge which is also without smell. The itching usually comes with vaginal pain and there is also pain during sexual intercourse and urinating.

That yeast infections are that common is no surprise. The bacteria which can cause the infection are usually always present. It is the over growth that makes the problem.

The uncontrolled growth of the fungi is often caused by a suppression of the immune system. If your immune system is weak for some reason, it can lead to an increased growth of these bacteria.

Stress can be a simple reason why your immune system is weaker than usual. Trying to reduce stress in your business and private life is a good advice in general.

If you have recurring yeast infections then you may even have a severe disease like Aids which is known to suppress the immune system.

Hormonal changes can also be a cause. If you are in menopause or menstruation then your hormone levels are changing. This is also true during pregnancy.

Medication can be another reason for your infection, especially drugs that have an effect on your hormone level or immune system. Antibiotics can be very bad as they usually also destroy the good bacteria which can fight the yeast infection.

If you have a sexual partner you should stop having sex until the infection is gone. You may already have transferred the infection to your partner so that he or she needs treatment as well. As long both of you still have the infection you should not have sex, otherwise the infection will never go away.

Since yeast infections are very common there are many over-the-counter treatments available. Many women like it because they do not need to go to the doctor.

However, if you are using an over-the-counter treatment then you must see results after three days, otherwise you should see your doctor quickly. You may not have a yeast infection but something different. You should also see your doctor when the infection reoccurs more often.
